Ayurveda for Flawless & Glowing Skin

Ayurveda for Flawless & Glowing Skin

Everyone wants their skin to be glowing and healthy. And what better way to get healthy skin naturally! Ayurveda is an exceptional way for overall well-being—including healthy skin. Since the skin is one of the most vital sense-organs, it is crucial to keep it healthy for both internal and external benefits. Ayurveda combines both natural art and scientific approach in age-old but most effective ways.

If you want to approach a healthy lifestyle, the best way to do so will be to adopt an Ayurvedic lifestyle. Ayurveda focuses on inner wellbeing. When you are genuinely happy, you radiate positivity and happiness. Having healthy and glowing skin is not all about the expensive products you use and the treatments you do. Most expensive cosmetics and skin treatments outwardly deal with the epidermal health and appearance of skin, teaching us a narrow mindset that appearance matters most. The results of such products too, are temporary.

However, Ayurvedic skincare is different. It focuses on finding the core cause of your skin issues. Ayurveda believes that a person’s overall health is apparent on their skin. Therefore, to have healthy looking skin, one’s internal body must be in harmony with nature. It goes way deeper than just solving skin issues. In Ayurveda, skin issues are called Doshas. These Doshas are of three types—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

  • Vata Dosha: Makes skin dry and thin, causing wrinkles, fine lines, clogged pores, and blackhead.

  • Pitta Dosha: Makes skin extremely sensitive, causing redness, inflammation, frequent breakouts, rashes, and pimples.

  • Kapha Dosha: Makes skin super oily, causing large pores, acne, blackheads, or even eczema.

In Ayurvedic skincare, you are taking good care of the health of your skin in the most natural ways possible. Nature does not harm but only provides benefits. Although using all-natural and paraben-free products will take time, the results will be lastingly healthy and glowing skin, with an overall change of lifestyle and mindset.

Remember all of the practices mentioned below are small steps towards, not only healthier skin, but also a healthier lifestyle. Here are some tips from Ayurveda to get glowing and flawless skin:

1. Understand your Skin Type

To find the right skincare routine for your skin, first, you have to understand your skin type. As mentioned earlier, Ayurvedic skincare is different for every skin type. So you must start by trying to understand your skin type based on the three typical doshas and practice what works best for you.

2. Daily Oil Massage

In Ayurveda, Abhyanga is a therapeutic practice to massage your skin with oil, stimulating the blood flow, and nourishing the skin. Practice massaging your skin every day, preferably before taking a bath. You can use any sort of oil of your liking and whichever suits you best to perform Abhyanga. Oils such as coconut oil, sesame oil, jojoba oil, and sunflower oil are the best to do so.

This practice helps in dealing with all kinds of skin doshas. While it helps nourish dry and sensitive skin, it helps oily just the same. You might think that applying oil on already oily skin might be counter-intuitive, it is not. When you apply healthy oils on the skin, the skin stops over producing more oil. So go ahead and embrace the goodness of Abhyanga starting today!

3. The Power of  a Pure Cleanser

Make sure the type of skin cleaner you use is a hundred percent natural and paraben-free. Some cosmetic cleansers can worsen your skin health by throwing off the oil balance in the skin, causing more of the dryness or acne. Make sure you invest in good quality, pure skin cleanser to protect your skin from harmful chemicals.

If you are on a budget, you can DIY an all-natural skin cleanser using just three products—chickpea flour (besan), turmeric (Haldi), and neem powder. This cleanser is the most effective for all skin types as chickpea flour is great for exfoliation and removal of dirt, turmeric helps in reducing inflammation and neem has a cooling effect on the skin.

Take one tablespoon of chickpea flour and add a pinch of turmeric to it. Then add some neem powder and water. Gently exfoliate your face with this all-natural cleanser twice a day at least (or more, depending on your skin type). You can also use this mixture for a weekly face mask by using less water and leaving it for a few minutes on your face.

4. Healthy Diet for Healthy Skin

You are what you eat. Diet plays a very important role in the skin’s health. Your overall digestive health, the type of food you eat, how you eat it, and when you eat—all of it needs to be considered. The food you use to fuel your body has a major impact on the Doshas in your body.

To have healthy skin, you must eat healthily and mindfully. Your diet must consist of green and leafy vegetables, fruits, nuts, whole grains, etc. The type of foods that you should avoid are sugary foods, foods that are too spicy, sour, and oily foods as they can cause inflammation (which is the cause of most skin issues) in your body. Just having a moderately healthy diet and eating schedule will help you in the long run.

5. Practice Yoga

When your body is in alignment with nature, your skin glows! Yoga and Ayurveda are inter-related. To reap the best of the benefits that nature has to offer, you need to align it with your body. However, yoga is so much more than just physical asana. It gives you a sense of overall enlightenment, self-knowledge, self-love, and the awareness of nature and your surroundings.

There are proven benefits of practicing yoga like detoxification of your body, better sleep, mental clarity, natural alignment, better blood circulation, a stronger immune system and so much more. Practicing yoga every day will give you healthy skin, body, and mind.

6. Stay Hydrated

Drink water! This one is an overall lifesaver. Dehydration is the number one cause of bad breakouts, dry skin, and other skin issues. People underestimate the power of drinking enough water. There are numerous benefits that you can derive just from staying well-hydrated all day. Not just your skin, but the brain, body, and mood are also affected by drinking water. So drink at least seven to eight glasses of water each day for your skin health and overall wellbeing.

When things change inside you, things change around you. Your skin and appearance is a reflection of your lifestyle. To have naturally healthy skin, you have to build a healthy lifestyle. Remember that truly glowing and healthy skin is not achieved overnight, it is a journey. So embrace this journey with patience and persistence, and your body will reward you.
